YCL Statement on the British Govt. vs. the Socialist Response to Hurricane Irma

The YCL condemns the British Government’s response – or rather lack of response – to providing aid to its overseas territories in the Caribbean, which is a stark reminder that the racism of a colonial power continues to this day. Its slack response to the disaster left its former slave colonies reeling from the loss of life, limb and home for many residents of the overseas territories of Anguilla, Montserrat, the British Virgin Islands and the Turks and Caicos Islands, whilst other countries like Cuba and the United States were prepared well in advance for the destruction.

On the other hand, Britain chose to neglect its citizens, leaving them to fend for themselves. If it had been Gibraltar or the Falklands, the British ruling class would have spared no expense to protect its people and military bases. But in this case, the British ruling class turns a blind-eye because the lives of Afro-Caribbean people are not worth as much as pit-stops for battleships and bombers. The YCL sends its solidarity to the working people affected by the hurricane and salutes the hard work of those ready to defend the livelihoods of themselves and others, particularly the Venezuelan Government, which is sending aid to Barbuda in this time of crisis.

The YCL also wishes to express its solidarity and condolences to the great socialist state of Cuba and salutes the efforts of the Cubans to aid other islands in the Caribbean in the spirit of true solidarity despite the wreckage visited upon the island by the hurricane.

YCL Statement on US aggression towards the DPRK

Young Communists in Britain reject Donald Trump’s stance towards the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, which evokes the darkest days of US imperialism and aggression.

The DPRK’s right to pursue its own destiny as an independent and sovereign country is paramount and should be respected, while the scale of US military might in the region must not be forgotten.

Importantly, Britain’s young communists recognise the very real threat posed by US posturing, and the escalation of military capacities in the region. That the use of nuclear weapons by the US is even being mentioned is exceedingly worrying; the untold misery that the use of such weapons would entail does not bear thinking about. It should be well remembered that the only country in the history of humankind which has used nuclear weapons to ‘immolate’ millions of civilians is the USA.

There are no limits on the lengths imperialism will go to in order to realise its plans, as shown in Syria, Libya, Vietnam, Chile and countless others, and the annexation of North Korea into its sphere of influence remains one of the foremost long-term priorities for the US and other imperialist powers.

While much attention is given to the DPRK’s supposed ‘aggressive’ nature, and more specifically Kim Jong Un’s ‘volatility’, the capitalist media fails to recognise that North Korea’s actions are aimed at countering US aggression in one of the most militarised parts of the world. The DPRK’s very right to exist is being threatened by imperialism.

When the supposed threat posed to Guam by North Korea is mentioned, it is seldom acknowledged that the people of Guam live under a military occupation, and that the territory serves as a large-scale military base for the US, with ports for nuclear submarines, and as a launch-pad for incursions into Chinese airspace and the Korean Peninsula. With at least 6,000 permanent military personnel, all drilled not to defend Guam but to target its force towards the DPRK, China and even Russia, the attempt to portray Guam as a poor defenceless US territory to be defended from the tyrannical Kim Jong-Un is risible. It is extremely clear where the real military and nuclear threat comes from.

Efforts by China towards the de-escalation of threats and the resolution of this US-incited conflict are likely to be paramount and should be supported by all.

Joint Declaration of World Communist Youth Organizations Regarding Refugee Crisis

Communist Youth Organizations (CYOs) received the Joint Appeal for the Refugee Issue, initially an initiative by 6 CYOs, KNE – SDAJ – FGC – SKOJ – CJC – TKG. CYOs from every corner of the world, CYOs, from countries that face imperialist wars and their people face the consequences of capitalism that creates crisis, wars, and refugees, declare the following:

Joint Declaration

Solidarity to the refugees. Let´s strengthen our struggle against imperialist wars and capitalism, that gives rise to crises, wars, refugees

The Communist Youth Organizations express our solidarity to the victims of the imperialist wars, the more than 65 million of refugees all over the world, among which, more than 30 million are children.

We denounce the peoples´ murderers, NATO, European Union and all the forces that, in favor of their monopolies and for the control of energy reserves, the ways of transportation of energy and commodities and the control of the markets, carry out imperialist interventions and wars. The EU governments have big responsibilities because with their resolutions, they clearly violate the international law, and have trapped millions of refugees, mainly from Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, in Turkey, Greece and other countries in which the refugees remain, against their will. They treat the refugees as a very cheap labour force within the framework of the general attack against the workers´rights, they permit or limit the refugee flows in accordance with the needs of the capitalist economy.

We struggle even more vigorously for the relief, the release and secure transportation of refugees to their destinations, for human conditions of temporary hosting. We isolate the fascist and racist forces in every country that point out the refugees (the victims) and acquit the capitalist system (the victimizer) by which they are brought up.

We reveal to the youth the causes that give rise to massive immigration and refugees. We are at the frontline of the expression of genuine popular solidarity, of the joint struggle of the peoples independently from national origin, race, language, religion.

We fight for workers´unity in our countries, to organize resistance and counterattack against the antipopular policy, for the rejection of any kind of division of the working class on the basis of national origin, language, race, religion. Unity among workers, local and immigrants, is the necessary precondition to stop the strategy of the capital that uses conflicts between them in order to increase the exploitation of all workers, to safeguard their capitalist profit.

Towards the 1st of May, 2017, we discuss massively with the youth in our countries about the imperialist war and confirm the actual character of the slogan of the Manifesto of the Communist Party, “Proletarians of all countries, unite!”

We shout:  Solidarity to the refugees. Our enemy is capitalism that gives rise to crises, wars, refugees! We struggle for its overthrow! For the workers to be able to live in peace and be masters of their place, eradicating the causes that today force them to massive immigration.

We honor the 100 anniversary of the Great Socialist October Revolution, we project its messages and strengthen the struggle for the only real alternative in capitalist barbarity, socialism.

YCL Statement on Recent Terror Attacks

The recent terror attacks in London and Manchester have highlighted not only the complete failure of the government to safeguard its citizens from terrorism but the fact that policies of the Conservative government actually contribute towards terrorism. The YCL recognises the need to halt the British governments imperialist meddling in the Middle East, the need to stop selling arms to governments like that of Saudi Arabia and the need to properly fund the emergency services and the NHS.

The YCL stands by the victims in utmost solidarity. No matter the nationality. No civilian should be targeted in such ways. The YCL condemns the barbarism of the attackers. The YCL must also draw attention to the bourgeois press and the capitalist media who stir up a hysteria over events in Britain yet ignore events perpetrated by the same groups in the Middle East. The YCL stands with victims of terrorism from Britain to Syria and wherever else it occurs.

The YCL calls for a working class response against terrorism and urges the peoples of Britain to halt their government’s imperialist agenda.
